Reflection
I made this by flattening out the clay, then i put it in to a plate mold and waited for it to dry. the next class i sanded it down to make all the sides even and started making the cake slice. i did this by flattening out another piece of clay and cutting out sides of the cake. after i did that i cut out the top and smoothed the sides of the clay down to make it even and smooth. after i waited for that to dry, i under glazed. i had to do multiple layers of each glaze and then fired it. i then put clear glaze on top and fired it again.
making this piece was hard and i didn't think i would finish it on time. when i made the plate the sides cracked when i took it off the mold and i had to get it wet again to put it back together. i used the hair dryer to dry it so i could under glaze it to have time to fire it. First I glazed the plate which took a lot of coats because the under glaze didn't stick to it and it kept drying uneven. after i couple layers it dried and i had to make the sides even and do a perfect line but i kept messing up and had to go over it. making the cake slice was hard too, and the different colors on top were hard to make perfect and after firing it again you could see the colors under it making it not look even.
Intrest
I found interest in this piece because i liked it and it looked easy to make. i also wanted to recreate it because i like the art Wayne Thiebaud makes.
